Comhairle na nÓg are local councils for children and young people that give them a voice on development of local policies and services. They are the recognised key structure for participation by children and young people in local decision making in all 31 local authorities of the country. Comhairle na nÓg’s work on topics of importance to young people, identified and voted on by young people in order for a youth led change to improve the lives of their peers.
They also act as a consultative forum to adult decision makers. Input maybe to assist with youth friendly processes content of policy or services, or public consultations. Representative members of Comahirle na nÓg often sit on adult committees to input views of young people and report information to the wider group.
Wexford Comhairle na nÓg work closely with Wexford County Council, FDYS, Youth Work Ireland, CYPSC and WWETB to provide a support and cohesive approach to topics and youth participation.
