The Journey
Never feeling like you really belong,
Like the emotions inside you are wired all wrong.
That you’re just so different from all of your friends,
That despair and depression will never end.
Who can you talk to? Who can you trust?
With all your emotions getting ready to burst.
No one to help you and nowhere to go
No form of support when you’re feeling so low.
Testing the waters with comments and jokes,
Fancying women but chatting up blokes.
Dying inside, all confusion and shame.
Turning it inwards, like you are to blame.
Hitting the booze cos it blocks out the hurt .
Feeling so hopeless, like you have no self-worth .
Getting so angry, you want to lash out
But no-one around you knows what it’s about.
So addiction takes over, becomes your first thought.
Your friends are deserting as no help is sought.
Avoiding your family and people you know
As anger and self-loathing continue to grow.
Eventually though, you have to succumb.
Admit to yourself something has to be done.
Try to accept that you are who you are,
Go and talk to someone and put down that jar.
Acceptance is key to freedom in life.
It alleviates lots of hassle and strife.
And being yourself is exciting and new.
It helps you become the best version of you.
Not all will accept you and some just won’t care
But with family and good friends you need to beware.
Choose your time wisely when you want to come out
As not everyone understands what being gay’s all about.
There ARE people to talk to and groups you can meet,
To help overcome this surmountable feat.
Believe in your strength to face what appears
And you’ll finally BE YOU and avoid many tears.
Stand Up!
And be proud of the journey you’ve made.
Stand Up!
Some of the past hurt will eventually fade.
Stand Up!
Though some people may shun you and some will ignore,
Stand Up!
Always be Yourself, No facade anymore.
