FDYS Student Placement Programme.

Over many years FDYS has been very lucky to have third level students placed in its services.  More recently we have re-structured the programme to meet the needs of the organisation and ensure better learning outcomes for our students on placement.

We have three student placement programmes:

  • Third Level Student Placement Programme
  • PLC Student Placement Programme
  • Secondary Level Student Placement Programme

Third Level Student Placement Programme

We have a long term relationship with Carlow IT and offer placements to their students on their Youth and Community and Social Care Programmes. Third Level Student Placement Programme consists of a student being placed as part of their course work into our services for up to 12 weeks at any one time.  During this period they will have weekly supervision with a dedicated supervisor.  Throughout the placement the student will have on-going contact with the college and a three-way meeting between student, college and our service will be conducted to ensure learning objectives are fulfilled.

A two day induction programme is completed by each student at the start of the placement.  Areas addressed in the induction include: Student and Service expectations, Child Protection, Organisational Structure, Project Presentation and site visits to our locations.

Each Student will have allocated time to complete coursework and learning journals and will be expected to be up to date on course work upon completion of placement.

We also provide students placement for Counselling graduates.  These placements are within our youth counselling service and are supervised by our qualified on staff Counsellor.  These placements are used to offer student counsellors the opportunity of working with young people specifically.

Other opportunities may arise for students from different colleges with specific skill sets.  We are open to possible placements from students in business and finance, marketing and Website and social media disciplines.  Please click here to apply.

PLC Student Placement Programme

This programme facilitates students on PLC courses.  Generally 60 hrs over a 12 week period is required.  We target students who are attending courses in County Wexford PLC colleges that focus on youth work and provide a structured placement which allows the student to gain multiple experiences in various settings. Please click here to apply.

Secondary level student placements

This programme is available to all students who may have to complete a work placement as part of their Transition Year or general school programme.  Students should apply as soon as possible and not wait until the last minute.  Students can be placed in our information services, working on our website and social media platforms, assisting in youth projects and general administration work such as reception etc.  Please click here to apply.

Applying for a Student Placement.

As FDYS has a limited number of student placements available it is advisable to apply as soon as possible.  Each application is brought to interview.  Applications are generally advertised within colleges three months before placement is due to start.  Applications should include a CV and cover letter and email to student.placements@fdys.ie .  Applications for placement in September/October should be submitted  in Mid June and placements for March/April should be submitted in January to avoid disappointment.

It is vitally important that you have Garda vetting in place therefore please ensure you can verify that you have this.  If you do not please click here to link to garda vetting form for downloading, complete and submit with other documentation required.  This can take up to one month to complete, therefore plan well ahead in advance.

If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact -053-9123262
