College Awareness Week will take place from 21-27 November 2016.
The campaign wants to change current attitudes and trends towards higher education among the marginalised groups in Irish society, such as people with disabilities, those from ethnic minorities and members of the Traveller community. CAW hopes to break down barriers to accessing information on further education by providing community libraries and clubs with information about further education.
Since it started in 2014, College Awareness Week has been a huge success. Last year over 700 events took place across Ireland, and this year the organisers expect the number to increase to 1,000 events.
Minister Richard Bruton said “I am delighted to give my support to this great initiative. One of the core objectives of our recently published Action Plan for Education is to increase participation in higher and further education by those from socially disadvantaged communities.”
College Awareness Week events promote the benefits of going to college and help students of all ages to become college-ready.
